Discover the most beautiful cities in Burgundy

Before planning your trip, it's best to know the best time of year to visit Burgundy. Autumn or spring? Why not summer? The summer season is indeed a wonderful time to choose which castle to visit in Burgundy. If you want to visit the castles to admire the vineyards and enjoy wine tasting, the best time is probably between May and October. This is the time of year when the vineyards change colour.

In addition, as you explore Burgundy's towns and cities, you will always come across the Wine Route and the most beautiful estates to visit. Here's a small, but not exhaustive, selection:

  • Beaune: a fortified city at the heart of Burgundy's winemaking activity, where you can enjoy your escapade in this beautiful city and visit the nearby châteaux. Admire the Hospices de Beaune with their colourful tiled roofs, the Basilica of Notre-Dame or the Moutarderie Fallot. Then visit the nearby Château de Savigny-lès-Beaune.
  • Chalon-sur-Saône: take the time to visit the cathedral of Saint-Vincent, the monks' cloister and the Nicéphore Niépce museum. The Orbandale route will allow you to discover every corner of the city and enjoy its architectural and historical heritage. And if you are there in the summer, you can enjoy the "Chalon dans la Rue" festival.
  • Mâcon: Situated on the banks of the Saône, in the south of Burgundy, you will be enchanted by its colourful facades. The "Tracé de la Plume" is a pedestrian route to discover the town's main heritage and historical treasures. And further afield, you can admire the countryside and follow in the footsteps of Lamartine.
